No prerequisites are necessary for this course. However, participants are expected to possess basic language, literacy, and numeracy skills, with an emphasis on oral communication.

  • Letter to the Organization: Submit a formal letter requesting work placement opportunity to the relevant organization
  • Insurance for Voluntary Work: Ensure coverage through insurance for any voluntary work undertaken.

Upon successful completion of the Certificate IV in Disability Support (CHC43121) program participants will

    • Acquire the skills and knowledge needed to enter various roles in disability support, including Disability Support Worker, Community Support Worker, Team Leader, Coordinator, and Personal Care Worker.
    • Develop a comprehensive understanding of individualised support, person-centred behaviour supports, and service responses tailored to the needs of people with disability.
    • Gain the ability to facilitate the empowerment of individuals with disabilities, fostering community participation and social inclusion.
    • Learn to facilitate ongoing skills development using a person-centred approach, ensuring continuous improvement and adaptability in support services.
    • Provide person-centred services to individuals with complex needs, enhancing the quality of care and support.
    • Manage legal and ethical compliance in disability support, ensuring responsible and ethical practices.
    • Work effectively with diverse people, recognising and respecting differences to provide inclusive and culturally sensitive care.
    • Recognise healthy body systems and follow safe work practices for direct client care, ensuring the well-being and safety of individuals under support.
    • Support independence and wellbeing, building a holistic approach to care that considers individual needs and preferences.
    • Develop skills to support relationships with carers and families, fostering collaborative and supportive environments.
    • Provide support to people living with dementia, gaining specialised skills for enhanced care in specific situations.
